Pirates of the Caribbean Closing this May at Disneyland

One of the most iconic attractions in Disney history, Pirates of the Caribbean at Disneyland, is set to temporarily close this May for refurbishment. This marks another major update for the nearly 60-year-old ride.

According to recent reports, the attraction will officially close on May 4, 2026, with May 3 being the last day guests can experience the classic boat ride before it goes down.  Alongside the ride, the beloved Blue Bayou Restaurant, famous for its indoor “nighttime” setting inside the attraction will also close on the same date.

While Disney has confirmed the closure, what’s still unknown is when Pirates of the Caribbean will reopen. Unlike Blue Bayou, which is expected to return later in May with limited offerings, the ride itself currently has no announced reopening timeline, suggesting the refurbishment could extend into the summer.

So what’s changing? While Disney hasn’t released full details, permits and reports point to technical upgrades, including improvements to projection effects, audio systems, and surrounding rockwork.  These updates are likely aimed at modernizing the attraction while preserving the classic scenes fans know and love.

Originally opening in 1967, Pirates of the Caribbean was the last attraction personally overseen by Walt Disney and has since become one of the most influential theme park rides ever created.  Its success even inspired the blockbuster film franchise starring Johnny Depp.

For guests planning a Disneyland trip this spring or early summer, this closure could be a big deal. Pirates is not just a ride, it’s a cornerstone of New Orleans Square and a must-do for many visitors.

Whether you’re trying to catch one last voyage before May 4 or waiting to see what changes are in store, one thing is certain: even after nearly six decades, Pirates of the Caribbean continues to evolve, proving that this legendary attraction isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
